Felix II | FELIX MARKED - Felix slant font bottom lamp, patented 1894 by Charles D. Felix, marked on font FELIX LAMP SHAMOKIN, PA., 1 3/4 in. base dia; ex-Chris Lord collection [Charles D. Felix was born on Oct. 20, 1858 in Coal Township, PA. Trained as a tinsmith, he married Charlotte Oswald in 1877 and fathered 3 daughters. The 1880 US Census shows him living in Shamokin, PA with his wife. His occupation is listed as tinsmith. The 1884-85 Shamokin City Directory lists Felix as a tinsmith with a business at Sunbury and Washington Streets in Shamokin. His design patent No. 23,526 was filed May 15, 1894 and awarded on July 31, 1894. It’s interesting that his patent application lists the configuration details of his new lamp but there are no claims of improvement or benefits of the design. The 1900 Census shows him living at 200 Dewart Street in Shamokin with his wife and 3 daughters while still listed as a tinsmith. He died on Nov. 19, 1901 and is buried in the Shamokin Cemetery.] | Original Image |
